SUmmer Cover up
Back in 2024 this was one of my first patterns it comes together as a nice little cover up for days at the beach and is an easy granny square pattern for beginners. Materials
Yarn: 285/ 260m of Medium 4 weight yarn
Hook: 5mm / H-8
Other: stitch markers, embroidery needle, and scissors
Stitch code
Mc– magic ring
Ch- Chain
St – stitch
Sk – skip
Sc – single crochet
Sl st – slip stitch
Dc – double crochet
3-Dc Clu – 3 Double Crochet Cluster
Fsc – Foundation single crochet
Sizes: S, M, L
One Square measurements:
S- 4.5’’x4.5’’
M- 5.5”x5.5”
L- 6.5”x6.5”
Gage: 18 and 24 rows = 4”x4” square
before we start the pattern I would like to say that if you need a bigger size than it’s just a matter of adding rounds to make the square bigger. I will add of little diagram or how to find your perfect size here.
Granny Square
Make a mc
Round 1: 12 dc into mc, sl st into 1st dc to close.
Round 2: ch 2, 3-dc clu, ch 2, *3-dc clu , ch 2* reapet ** into each dc from previous round, sl st into top of ch 3.
Round 3: sl st over to ch 2 sp, ch 2, (3 dc in ch 2 space, ch 2 , 3 dc in same ch2 space) this will make the corner, *3 dc in ch2 space, 3 dc in next ch 2 space (3 dc in ch2 space, ch 2 , 3 dc in same space)* repeat ** all the way around, sl st into top of ch 3.
Round 4: sl st over to corner space,(ch 2, 3 dc in corner space, ch 2, 3 dc in same space), *bldc down to next corner, (3 dc, in corner space, ch 2, 3 dc in same space) repeat ** all the way around. for S stop here
Round 5: sl st over to corner space, (ch 3, 2 dc in corner space, ch 2, 3 dc in same space), *dc down to next corner, (3 dc, in corner space, ch 2, 3 dc in same space) repeat ** all the way around. for M stop here.
Round 6: Round 4: sl st over to corner space, (ch 3, 2 dc in corner space, ch 2, 3 dc in same space), *bldc down to next corner, (3 dc, in corner space, ch 2, 3 dc in same space) repeat ** all the way around. Measurement. for L stop here
Make 4
Tip: block squares overnight if they do not lay flat.
Assembly
Sc crochet two squares together to make a rectangle, do this twice so you have two rectangles. attach rectangles together at one corner only.
Adding ties and finishing edge
Starting at attached corner sc up short end of rectangle to next corner. Make first tie by crocheting 60 fsc then sc back down foundation chain to corner. Continue scs down long side of rectangle to next corner. Make second tie by repeating steps for first tie. Continue scs around rest of first rectangle and first long and short side of second rectangle. Make third tie. Continue scs up second long side. Make forth and last tie. Continue scs to very first scs of edging sl st into it. Tie off. Sew in ends.
Notes About Chart
The purple and green rounds are for the small. For Medium include the red round. For Large include the red and blue rounds.
